The last running event this year for Madras Runners Club was the Jefferson Country Running Festival. This year we decided to do things a little differently, and run one race with two distance options as a celebration of our community, coaches, and athletes. The coaches had the idea of making this costume themed and untimed which was really fun for the youth. All of our local teams participated: Culver High, Culver Middle School, Madras High, JCMS, and Warm Springs K8.
It was a beautiful sight to see, to have that many young runners enjoying the beauty of our sport. And having adults and children share miles with them as well. Pretty awesome to have runners in their 60s and 70s running alongside these youth, and showing them that running is something you can do for many years to come. Overall we had over 200 participants and people cheering for them as they ran. Would love to see this become an annual celebration!
We also had the privilege of having Josh Cordell coming to speak to the youth about the power of positive thinking. I want to say thank you to both the coaches, the teams, and our board members at Madras Runners Club for their help in putting on this event.
